Institute of Directors in Ireland appoints Jimmy Murphy to its board

The Institute of Directors in Ireland (IoD) has announced the appointment of Jimmy Murphy to its board. Jimmy was formally elected to the board at the Institute of Directors’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dublin (31st May)

Jimmy Murphy is a Chartered Accountant and a partner in professional services firm Grant Thornton. He was Managing Partner of the firm for two terms, during which time he negotiated a number of successful mergers and oversaw the development of various in-house business units, resulting in the firm growing by a factor of three times during his term in office. He has extensive experience as lead engagement partner on companies listed on the Irish, UK and US stock exchanges. Jimmy's client portfolio includes listed companies and mid corporate clients mainly in the manufacturing, services, distribution, biotech, pharmaceutical and telecom sectors. He is Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Arts Council and a director of a number of private companies.

He has qualifications in Management Information Systems and Computer Programming from the Irish Management Institute and Trinity College respectively and he also holds a Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction, completed as part of the IoD's Chartered Director Programme.
