A&L Goodbody today opened the call for applications from law students to its annual Bold Ideas Law Student Innovation Award competition.
The competition recognises the most innovative ideas for the provision of legal services in Ireland and internationally. At the same time, the Firm announced that it plans to recruit approximately 30 graduate positions as part of its Trainee Recruitment Programme over the coming months.
Now in its second year, the theme of Bold Ideas 2013 focuses on ‘Playing to our strengths: international legal opportunities for Ireland'. With Ireland leading the way in foreign direct investment, our strength in many global sectors, and our cultural influence through music and the arts, the Firm is calling on law students to present their ideas on what would, or could, make the Irish legal profession proud of its international reputation.
Speaking at the launch of the award, John Whelan, Head of A&L Goodbody's International Technology Group, said: "Last year, we were overwhelmed by the calibre of entries and the truly innovative ideas which were put forward by Ireland's law students. This award is designed to encourage the enthusiasm and creativity of the next generation of legal professionals and give them a platform to identify ways the profession can adapt and evolve for the future."
The first prize winner will receive €3,000 in cash and an internship at one of A&L Goodbody's office locations (Dublin, Belfast, London, New York or San Francisco) including travel and accommodation. In addition, the Firm will make a cash donation on the winner's behalf to a charity of their choice. Runners up will receive an iPad mini.
Judges for the competition are Michael McDowell, Senior Counsel and former Attorney General, Clíodhna O'Sullivan, Head of Legal for Telefónica Ireland and John Whelan, Partner and Head of the International Technology Group at A&L Goodbody.
