Insurance Ireland’s 2017 Annual Lunch Caps a Landmark Year

CEO Kevin Thompson: “Following our successful merger, we are positioned to realise the industry’s’ full potential”

Insurance Ireland was delighted to welcome 350 industry representatives and stakeholders to its 2017 Annual Lunch to highlight recent industry achievements and to hear new figures on the scale of the industry in Ireland.

Speaking at the event, Insurance Ireland President Frank Mee said “I have immense pride in our industry and its social and economic contribution with Insurance Ireland members paying out more than €13 billion per year in claims and benefits to Irish customers and the industry employing 28,000 people directly and indirectly. Insurance Ireland is also leading change in the industry through its diversity initiative, the Year of Inclusion, and its academic and industry collaborations in InsurTech. With these and other initiatives, there is justifiable optimism in our industry as we look ahead.”

CEO of Insurance Ireland Kevin Thompson said “2016 had many highlights including the hosting of the Insurance Europe Conference and the many policy advances achieved for our members. The highlight of the last year was, however, our successful merger with DIMA to bring our membership to 140 companies. We are now positioned to realise the industry’s full potential and respond to major developments such as Brexit by speaking with one voice for the entire industry. As a membership driven organisation, our priority is to build on the achievements of the last year across all aspects of the industry in 2017 and beyond.”

The Annual Lunch was addressed by Cliff Taylor, the Managing Editor of the Irish Times who spoke about the challenges posed by Brexit and the significant landmarks ahead for businesses to be alert to.
