Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority
Established at the beginning of May, 2003, the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority (IFSRA) is the single regulator of all financial institutions in Ireland. The Financial Services Regulator is a distinct element of the Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland, with clearly defined regulatory responsibilities. These cover all Irish financial institutions, including those previously regulated by Central Bank, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE), Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs (ODCA) and the Registrar of Friendly Societies. It is responsible for the regulation of about 4,000 entities and has a strong new role in consumer protection.
