More Information

On 28th June 1922, the people of Dublin woke to find themselves yet again in the middle of a war zone. Only this time it was not Irishmen fighting against a foreign enemy, they were now fighting fellow Irishmen. The Irish Civil War had begun.

Although the Irish Civil War was to only last eleven months, the legacy of this conflict is still felt in this country today. Liz Gillis, author of ‘The Fall of Dublin’ will discuss the opening battle of the Irish Civil War which raged in Dublin city between 28th June and 5th July 1922 telling the story not just of the battle but also those involved and the impact these events had both on the country and the people.

Liz Gillis is a historian specialising in the Irish Revolutionary period 1916-23. She has written six books about the Irish Revolution, amongst them the ‘The Fall of Dublin’.
The lecture and discussion will start at 5.30pm sharp and will be held in the Witness Gallery.

Tickets for this talk are €10, this also includes and optional self-guided of the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre at 4.45pm.
