Sharapova to continue comeback at Edgbaston Classic

LONDON (Reuters) - Former world number one Maria Sharapova will continue her comeback from a nine-month injury layoff at next month's Edgbaston Classic.

"I'm really excited about getting back on to the grass courts again," Sharapova said on Tuesday in a statement released by the organisers.

"Birmingham is a really special tournament for me and I always get great support. I've won there twice before and I always feel very welcome, it's excellent preparation for Wimbledon."

The 22-year-old Russian, who owns three grand slam singles titles, made her singles comeback on Monday in Warsaw after recovering from a shoulder injury.

The Wimbledon warm-up tournament begins on June 8.
