A&L Goodbody wins

A&L Goodbody, one of Ireland's leading corporate law firms, has been recognised as ‘Irish Law Firm of the Year’ by the prestigious ‘American Lawyer’ magazine in the annual Transatlantic Legal Awards at a ceremony held in London last night.

The Awards recognise law firms for excellence in handling transatlantic matters across the key areas of corporate, finance and disputes, as well as highlighting law firm innovation.

Commenting on the Award win Julian Yarr, Managing Partner at A&L Goodbody said “A&L Goodbody maintains a strategic focus and investment on both the East and West coasts of America. As the first Irish law firm to open an office in the US in 1978, the strong trade corridor between the U.S. and Ireland is an important and growing market for us and the wider Irish economy. Winning this award is a great affirmation of the excellent calibre of the work that we do for clients in the U.S. who do business in Ireland.”

The award received by Alan Casey, Head of A&L Goodbody's New York office and John Whelan, Head of A&L Goodbody's San Francisco and Palo Alto offices, acknowledges the complex and high profile transactions that A&L Goodbody advise on. This includes some of the most significant global transactions involving U.S. corporations doing business with Ireland including Johnson Controls Inc.'s proposed $18.5bn merger with Tyco International plc.

The award also recognised A&L Goodbody’s continuing growth in attracting U.S. clients. To support this, A&L Goodbody recently appointed another partner to its New York office. Amelia O'Beirne, Tax Partner, has extensive experience of advising domestic and international clients on the tax aspects of corporate restructurings, complex cross border financing transactions, U.S. multinational tax planning, mergers and acquisitions.
